Feeling quite depressed about reading Kierkegaard – he is a bit down in the dumps. That aside, I have massive issues with his conclusion that sensuality is the most abstract of concepts and thus marries well with music, the most abstract of forms of expression. The whole idea that the ‘spirituality of Christianity excludes sensuality and therefore sensuality is bad in Western thought’ has some credence, but to then separate spirituality and sensuality into different degrees of abstraction is, to me, absurd.
